Transforming Teacher Education Through Technology Infusion

Since 1999, PT3 grantees have worked to transform teacher education so that technology is integrated throughout teaching and learning. Their goal has been to ensure that new teachers enter the classroom prepared to effectively use the computers that await them. Change of this scale is a formidable challenge, but grantees have developed innovative strategies to advance the cause. This site features just a few of the common strategies grantees are using to transform teacher education. Browse stories indexed by the strategies below or by PT3 Lessons Learned.

Course Redesign:
There are as many approaches to the redesign of courses as there are schools, campuses, courses and classes.

Digital Equity:
Future teachers need to better understand the scope and nature of the digital divide-and how to overcome obstacles.

E-Portfolios:
Electronic portfolios are replacing the old 3-ring binder in schools of education across the country, allowing students to showcase student teaching video clips and learn how to use technology at the same time.

Faculty Development:
Faculty development requires careful planning. There isn't a "one size fits all" solution to motivating and training faculty.

State-Wide Change:
Among the over 400 consortia who have received PT3 grant funding are several grants that focus on effecting technology change not just within a single institution, but within institutions throughout an entire state.

Technology Tools:
Technology tools are enhancing teaching and learning from the kindergarten classroom to the college lecture hall.

Video Learning Tools:
The format for classroom training for preservice teachers is going far beyond role-playing these days, as video tools continue to emerge on college campuses.
